Kyle Shedden records second perfect game in Marlins history

Rookie Kyle Shedden (right) tosses perfect game with 16 K's in second BMBL career start

Nearly one year to the day since Merrimack Valley Marlins' Sean O'Neill tossed a perfect game in his 18+ debut, rookie teammate Kyle Shedden repeated the feat, albeit in his second BMBL career start.

Shedden faced the 21-batter minimum in the 4-0 win over the Boston Jakes on Wednesday night, recording the second perfect game in the Marlins' four-year history and the fifth perfect game in BMBL history.

The rookie southpaw struck out 16 of the 21 batters he faced and induced five ground ball outs in his outing. After the game, Marlins' catcher Eddie Cody said, "It was the easiest game I've ever caught. He couldn't have missed his spots even if he tried".

Marlins' manager Colby Ham summarized the rookie pitcher as the "ultimate team player", after Shedden attempted to pull himself from the game early in order to save his arm for an upcoming bout with the rival Havoc.

Prior to playing for the Marlins, Shedden pitched for Brandeis University from 2016-2020. He was recruited to the Marlins by his former Judges' teammate Sean O'Neill, the owner of the first perfect game in Marlins' history.

So far in 2022, Shedden has allowed just one hit over 11 innings, while striking out 26, leading the Marlins to a perfect 0.00 team ERA through three games.

The Marlins (3-0) look to continue their hot start this Sunday afternoon at 1:30 PM against the Boston Hogs (1-2) at North Andover High School.
