BMBL Opening Day 2024

Opening Day 2024 is officially underway as the Boston Metro Baseball League gears up for its 37th season of amateur baseball in Boston.

The 2024 season will showcase the talents of 38 teams across four divisions, each eager to stake their claim and walk away as champions of their respective division.

Let's take a closer look at each of the four divisions below.

18+ Division

Commissioner Brett Rudy will oversee the action in the 18+ division, which comprises a total of 11 teams for the 2024 season, with each team slated to play a 24-game regular-season schedule.

Among those teams are four new additions: the Bay State Raiders under the leadership of William Farley; the Granite State Rockies managed by Mike Crimmins; the Norfolk County Mariners helmed by James Kajano and Chris Holland; and the Weymouth Black Sox led by Alex Samaras.

These newcomers are eager to showcase their talents and make a name for themselves in the division. And with the defending 18+ champions not returning for the 2024 season, the field is wide open for the taking.

The top six teams at the end of the regular season will qualify for the postseason and be seeded based on total points. For a comprehensive overview of the playoff structure and requirements in the 18+ division, refer to Section 5.02 of the league rules.

28+ Boston Division

Under the guidance of newly appointed Commissioner Orazio Azzarello, the 28+ Boston division will see a total of 11 teams, each slated to play a 22-game regular-season schedule.

Two new contenders have entered the fray for the 2024 season and will aim to elevate the competition in an already fiercely competitive field. Welcome aboard to the Boston Expos, led by Branden Anderson, and the Winthrop Marlins, managed by Johnny Magee.

MetroWest 28+ Division

In the MetroWest 28+ division, commissioned by Chris Currie, the landscape has shifted slightly with the departure of the Douglas Tigers and the five-time MetroWest champion Royals.

Despite these losses, the division still remains highly competitive, with a total of six teams battling it out for the 2024 MetroWest championship, each set to play a 15-game regular-season schedule.

The top 4 teams at the end of the regular season will be eligible for the postseason and seeded based on total points. For a comprehensive overview of the playoff structure and requirements in the MetroWest 28+ division, refer to Section 5.04 of the league rules.

Masters 38+ Division

Finally, in the Masters 38+ division, overseen by Commissioner Scott Isaacs, a total of 10 teams will make up the Masters division in 2024, with each team set to play a 17-game regular-season schedule.

Two new teams have joined the ranks: the Weymouth White Sox, under the stewardship of manager Pete Mondolfi, and the Boston Cardinals, who made the leap up from the 28+ Boston division and continue to be managed by Rich Slamin.

With 10 solid teams in total, the 2024 season in the Masters division promises to be one of the most competitive in the division's history.
