2024 All-Star Game Recap

2024 28+ Boston Division All-Stars

The 2024 BMBL All-Star Game double header took place at LeLacheur Park in Lowell for the first time since 2016, on a beautiful 80-degree sunny day, featuring two thrilling matchups that showcased the league's top talent.

Game 1: MetroWest Ends Masters' Streak with 6-4 Victory

In the first game of the All-Star double header, the MetroWest 28+ Division faced off against the Masters 38+ Division. Despite the Masters Division entering the contest with a four-game winning streak, the MetroWest Division emerged victorious with a 6-4 victory.

The Masters squad jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the 1st, thanks to an RBI single from Carlos Escano (Los Gigantes), a sac fly from Kevin Lyons (The Bulls), and an RBI double from John Jones (Somerville Alibrandis).

The MetroWest stars responded with two runs in the bottom half, courtesy of a 2-RBI double from Matt Ryan of the Marlborough Red Sox. The score remained 3-2 until the 4th, when Chris Wright (Somerville Alibrandis) doubled in Jones, bringing the Masters' lead to 4-2.

The MetroWest side once again countered in the bottom half, quickly tying the game at 4-4 on a sac fly from Angel Bello (Medway Brewers) and an RBI double from Russ Wells (Marlborough Red Sox). They would add two more runs in the 5th and hold on to win by a final score of 6-4.

Winning pitcher Angel Bello was named the game's MVP, delivering a stellar performance on the mound with 6 strong innings, allowing just 1 run on 3 hits while striking out an All-Star record 14 batters.

Game 2: 28+ Boston Division Dominates 18+ Division in 10-3 Win

The second game of the All-Star double header featured the 18+ Division taking on the 28+ Boston Division, with the 28+ team looking for their sixth consecutive win over their youthful counterparts.

Kyle Maglio of the Cambridge Spinners gave the 28+ squad an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st when he led off with a walk, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a fielder's choice by Xavier Landestoy (Boston Expos).

The 28+ Division added another run in the 3rd, two more in the 5th, and another in the 6th, to take a 5-0 lead heading into the 8th inning. There, they quickly grew that lead to 10-0 following a five-run surge, highlighted by an RBI double from Matthew Sommerfield (N.A. Thunder), a 2-RBI double from Bill Clang (Milton Fighting Irish), and an RBI single from Dan Turner (Boston Bison).

Despite trailing 10-0 heading into the final frame, the 18+ Division refused to go down without a fight, plating 3 runs on four straight hits to spoil the shutout, but ultimately coming up short, falling to the 28+ Division by a final score of 10-3.

Brock Riley of the Lowell Angels was named the game's MVP, earning the win with 5 solid innings on the mound, allowing just 2 earned runs on 4 hits to go along with 6 strikeouts.
