2021 BMBL Hall of Fame class announced

The 2021 BMBL Hall of Fame class from left to right: Darwin Hernandez, Dave Lightbody, Jeff Coveney, Eric Bennett, Dan Godfrey

The BMBL Hall of Fame (HOF) was originally created as a means of recognizing and honoring those elite players who've had outstanding accomplishments on the baseball field, while also making a substantial impact on our league.

Unfortunately, this process fell by the wayside and it has been over a decade since we last inducted deserving players into the BMBL Hall of Fame.

However, thanks to the efforts of Paul Laurin (North Andover Thunder), Dan Field (Waltham Cutters, Somerville Senators, Metro Red Sox), and the league administration, the HOF has been brought back to life.

In the midst of the 2021 regular season, a HOF selection committee was formed, comprised of fifteen veteran players from across each of the four BMBL divisions, all of whom have been in the league for a minimum of ten years.

To be considered for election, players needed to meet the following eligibility criteria below:

This generated a total of 41 eligible nominees. Each member of the HOF committee voted for no more than 10 of those nominees, based on who they considered worthy of Hall of Fame honors. To be enshrined, a player had to be named on at least 70% of the voters' ballots.

Based on the voting results, the league is proud to announce that five new players have been inducted into the BMBL Hall of Fame. The inductees will be honored at the 2021 League Banquet scheduled for Wednesday, October 27th, 7:00 PM at Game On.

Congratulations to Jeff Coveney (86.7% of votes), Darwin Hernandez (86.7% of votes), Dan Godfrey (86.7% of votes), Dave Lightbody (80% of votes), and Eric Bennett (73.3% of votes) on being elected into the BMBL Hall of Fame!

The new inductees have been added to the Hall of Fame page.

Of the 41 players (seen below) listed on the HOF ballot, a total of 33 players received votes.
