2019 BMBL season is underway

The 2019 BMBL season is officially underway with the MSBL Metrowest division kicking things off with a set of games last weekend. Opening Day in the MABL, MSBL 28+ and MSBL Masters' divisions will take place this week. As we all prepare for another exciting Summer in the BMBL, here are a few updates to be aware of this season across each of the four divisions:

MABL

The MABL division will remain at 9 teams for the 2019 season. The Newton Dodgers will not be returning and as a result, a new team has joined the MABL division for the 2019 season. Welcome aboard to the Merrimack Valley Marlins. Lastly, the North Shore Snappers have changed their team name to the Lynnfield Cardinals.

Of the nine teams in the MABL, the top six teams will qualify for the playoffs with the top two seeds receiving a first round bye. Seeds No. 3-6 will be wild cards and seeded based on the most points earned during the regular season. Click to view the official MABL rules and regulations.

Opening Night in the MABL is scheduled for Thursday, April 25th at 8:00pm and will feature a 2018 MABL Finals' rematch between the Cambridge Spinners and the Boston Sox.

MSBL 28+

The teams and divisions in the MSBL 28+ division will remain the same for the 2019 season, except for a change in team name. The Winthrop White Sox have changed their team name to the Boston Dodgers, although their home field will remain in Winthrop.

A reminder that all regular-season and postseason games will consist of 7 innings. The top 4 teams in each division will be eligible for the postseason. Click to view the MSBL 28+ rules and regulations.

Opening night in the MSBL 28+ division will take place Thursday night, April 25th, as the North Shore Havoc battle the North Andover Thunder at Breed Junior High School in Lynn.

MSBL MetroWest

The Metrowest division will drop from 9 teams to 8 teams in 2019 with the loss of the Northborough Phillies. The Worcester White Sox have changed their team name to the Worcester Expos. Click to view the official MSBL MetroWest rules and regulations.

MSBL Metrowest action will continue on Sunday, April 28th with four games slated in the early morning.

MSBL Masters

The MSBL Masters division will grow from 9 teams to 11 teams for the 2019 season. Welcome aboard to the Bistro 781 Bulls and to the Boston Cardinals - who now have a team in both the 28+ and Masters division. There are also several changes in team names to note. The Brockton Rockies have changed their team name to the Avi Nelson Rockies, the North Shore Havoc are now the North Shore Gators and the Winthrop White Sox have changed their team name to the Boston Dodgers.

With the addition of two teams, the postseason qualification will change slightly for the 2019 season. Instead of a No. 8-seed versus 9-seed single play-in game, just the top 8 teams will qualify for the postseason and we will reseed after each round so that the highest seed plays the lowest seed. Opening Night in the MSBL Masters division is scheduled for Monday, April 22nd with 4 games on the board.

Best of luck to all teams in 2019! Let's play ball!
