Spinners win back-to-back MABL championships

2016 MABL 18+ Champions - Cambridge Spinners

For the first time since 2010, the No. 1-seeded teams in their respective divisions faced off in the MABL 18+ Championship Series.

The Boston Athletics and the Cambridge Spinners both finished first in their division in the regular season with identical 17-7 records, earning them byes in the first round of the playoffs.

In a gritty best-of-five Championship Series, the Spinners defeated the Athletics in four games to successfully defend their title and earn back-to back championships.

They did it on the back of Cy Young Award winner Luc Kocher, who posted a 3-0 record in the postseason with a 1.67 ERA while striking out 17. Equally impressive was the Athletics' pitching staff and their 1.04 postseason ERA, but great defense and timely hitting would be the difference in the series.

Congratulations to the Cambridge Spinners on winning back-to-back 18+ titles, and hats off to the runner-up Athletics on a great season.
